“Apples to Apples” Dedication Ceremony
Keep your eyes open for information coming on our very special celebration we will have in the fall to dedicate our new Apple computer IMAC lab and IPOD cart.  This exciting new technology was made possible through our “Apples to Apples” fundraising campaign last year, with the centerpiece being our “Apples to Apples” Gala Auction held on March 27, 2010.  We raised over $32,000 through the generosity and efforts of our entire community.  We are very excited to share this with our JA family!

Magazine Sale
This kickoff fundraiser has become an annual tradition at JA and dates back decades in our school history.  The Magazine Sale will run from 10/5/10 through 10/19/10, with daily incentive prizes distributed along the way.

Scholastic Book Fair
Mrs. Bradford, our school librarian will once again be organizing the Scholastic Book Fairs in the fall and spring.  The fall book fair will be held in the library from 11/15/10-11/23/10, and the spring book fair will be 4/11/11-4/15/11.  This is a great opportunity to purchase books at a great price, while supporting JA at the same time.  Each class will have an assigned time to shop and there will also be times for parents to shop without their children.

Holiday Elf Shoppe
The Holiday Elf Shoppe has become a favorite here at Johnny Appleseed School.  Each class is assigned a time slot to come “shop” for the holidays for family members and friends.  Our gymnasium is transformed into a winter wonderland with a countless number of items for purchase-all $3.00 or under.  Those who have either volunteered their time at this event or come in to help their children pick out just the right gift know how priceless it is to see the students’ faces as they make their selections.

Italian Night
Come and join us for a pasta dinner as our cafeteria is transformed into “Johnny Appleseed Tratorria” for an evening on Thursday, 1/20/11 from 4:30-7:00.  You can also take your chances on raffle items-details to follow.  As always, a bake table with an assortment of delicious desserts will be available to complete the night.

Yankee Candle Fundraiser
We have been doing this fundraiser for a few years now at Johnny Appleseed and it remains successful.  Yankee Candles tend to sell themselves, as we all know what wonderful products they have.  This will run 1/29/10-2/12/10.

Teacher Appreciation Week
The first full week in May also marks National Teacher Appreciation Week.  While we know we can’t ever thank our teachers and staff here at Johnny Appleseed enough for all that they do, we try our best during this week to show our sincere appreciation and gratitude.  Breakfast buffets, small tokens of appreciation, and a catered luncheon are just some of the plans we’re working on.

Field Days
As we near those last weeks of the school year, it’s always fun for the students to “let loose” during our Field Days, held this year on June 6th and June 7th.  This is a great time for the kids as they rotate with their class through a number of game stations in the gymnasium and the field outside.

Books and Beyond Ceremony
An end of the year celebration of our popular reading incentive program that runs throughout the school year.  This is a wonderful program to attend to see the students who complete all eight stations recognized for their hard work and receive their “gold medals”.  In addition, the PTO also provides entertainment for the students after the ceremony.  Some recent entertainment that we have seen was The Bubble Man and a popular children’s author.  This year’s Books and Beyond Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 3rd  at the school.

Mother/Daughter Tea
JA held its’ first Mother/Daughter Tea last June thanks to the idea and planning of second grader, Samantha Bunner.  JA Teachers and staff transformed our cafeteria into a beautiful fairy-themed tea party for over 250 mothers and daughters!  We expect this will become a special tradition at JA now and look forward to our next Tea, to be held in June.  Check back with us soon for a confirmed date

Spirit Week
What a week of fun!!  JA held its’ first Spirit Week last June, coordinated by our creative teachers and staff.  In addition to hallways filled with JA clothing and attire, we also had “luau day”, “color day”, “favorite sports team day”, and “backwards day”.  As a special treat, teachers and staff supplied pictures of themselves when they were in elementary school for all to guess “who was who”!  Spirit week will be held 6/6/11-6/10/11.  Look for details of what surprises teachers and staff will have for us this year!

Fifth Grade BBQ
As we prepare to send our precious fifth graders off to middle school, we end the year for them with a BBQ in their honor.  This will be held Wednesday, June 15th.  The kids are treated to burgers, dogs, and all the “extras” you would find at a backyard BBQ.  There are games, face painting, and just an overall fun time!  More details will come as the date nears.
