Italian Night
Come and join us for a pasta dinner as our cafeteria is transformed into “Johnny Appleseed Tratorria” for an evening on Thursday, 1/19/12 from 4:30-7:00.  You can also take your chances on raffle items-details to follow.  As always, a bake table with an assortment of delicious desserts will be available to complete the night.

Yankee Candle Fundraiser
We have been doing this fundraiser for a few years now at Johnny Appleseed and it remains successful.  Yankee Candles tend to sell themselves, as we all know what wonderful products they have. This will run 1/30/12-2/8/12.

For additional information, please contact JillGradito@jaschoolpto.com or Maureen Maher-Killelea at mkillelea@jaschoolpto.com

Mother/Son Basketball
Make sure you have a courtside seat for this evening of fun in our gymnasium as boys and their mothers take the court.  This event is for boys in grades 3-5 and their mothers or guardians and will be held Friday, March 2nd at 6:00.

For additional information, please contact MichelleCotton@jaschoolpto.com

Mother/Son Bingo
Another favorite here at JA for boys in grades K-2 and their mothers or guardians is our Mother/Son Bingo night.  This will be held on Friday, March 16th at 6:30 in the school cafeteria.  This is a free event sponsored by the PTO.

For additional information, please contact PattiDeAmicis@jaschoolpto.com

Father/Son Night
Last year Johnny Appleseed School hosted its first ever Father/Son Night, with a magician and “make your own sundae bar”!  This was a great hit with the “guys” and we are sure it will be an annual tradition now.  This event is open to boys and their Dads(or responsible male adult) and will be held on Friday, March 30th.  Details on time and events planned for the evening to follow.

Father/Daughter Dance
One of the favorite long standing traditions here at JA will make its return for another very special night out for daughters and their chaperones at our annual Father/Daughter Dance, to be held Friday, April 13th from 6:00-8:00 in the school gym.  Join us as the PTO transforms our school gymnasium into a magical night for all.  Notices and additional information will be sent home in March.

For additional information, please contact PattiDeAmicis@jaschoolpto.com or MichelleCotton@jaschoolpto.com

Mother/Daughter Tea
JA held its’ first Mother/Daughter Tea two years ago thanks to the idea and planning of second grader, Samantha Bunner. JA Teachers and staff transformed our cafeteria into a beautiful fairy-themed tea party for over 250 mothers and daughters!  This has now become a very special event that both mothers and daughters look forward to each spring.  We hope you will mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 2nd at 3:30 for this year’s Tea.

For additional information, please contact PattiDeAmicis@jaschoolpto.com

Teacher Appreciation Week
The first full week in May also marks National Teacher Appreciation Week.  While we know we can’t ever thank our teachers and staff here at Johnny Appleseed enough for all that they do, we try our best during this week to show our sincere appreciation and gratitude.  Breakfast buffets, small tokens of appreciation, and a catered luncheon are just some of the plans we’re working on.

For additional information, please contact PattiDeAmicis@jaschoolpto.com or MichelleCotton@jaschoolpto.com

Lawn Party
Another annual tradition at Johnny Appleseed, the Lawn Party will share in the celebrations this year as we commemorate the 52nd  Johnny Appleseed Lawn Party on Saturday, May 19th.  This great end of the year event will include a food court, games, Pot Luck Raffle, Moonwalk, Inflatable Obstacle Courses, face painting, gift basket raffle and much more.  You’re sure to see some surprises, too!

For additional information, please contact PattiDeAmicis@jaschoolpto.com

Field Days
As we near those last weeks of the school year, it’s always fun for the students to “let loose” during our Field Days, held this year on June 4th and June 5th.  This is a great time for the kids as they rotate with their class through a number of game stations in the gymnasium and the field outside.

For additional information, please contact PattiDeAmicis@jaschoolpto.com

Books & Beyond Ceremony
An end of the year celebration of our popular reading incentive program that runs throughout the school year.  This is a wonderful program to attend to see the students who complete all eight stations recognized for their hard work and receive their “gold medals”.  In addition, the PTO also provides entertainment for the students after the ceremony.  Some recent entertainment that we have seen was The Bubble Man and a popular children’s author.  This year’s Books and Beyond Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 8th at the school.

For additional information, please contact MichelleCotton@jaschoolpto.com

Spirit Week
What a week of fun!!  JA will hold Spirit Week in June, coordinated by our creative teachers and staff.  In addition to hallways filled with JA clothing and attire, we have had “luau day”, “color day”, “favorite sports team day”, and “backwards day”.  As a special treat, teachers and staff supplied pictures of themselves when they were in elementary school for all to guess “who was who”!  Spirit week will be held 6/4/12-6/8/12.  Look for details of what surprises teachers and staff will have for us this year!

Fifth Grade BBQ
As we prepare to send our precious fifth graders off to middle school, we end the year for them with a BBQ in their honor.  This will be held Wednesday, June 13th.  The kids are treated to burgers, dogs, and all the “extras” you would find at a backyard BBQ.  There are games, face painting, and just an overall fun time!  More details will come as the date nears.
